Hey there! I'm Ryan - I write a wine blog that allows me to work on sniffing and tasting as many wines as I can. I've hiked, and more importantly, eaten my way across Spain, France, and Italy. I love meeting new people and discussing food, wine, and travel. I love collaborating with others in person and online while exploring those topics and more. Please look around. Check out my writing, photos, and oenophilic aspirations.

Enjoying white wines this winter

It's no secret ... I love white wines. I tend to find reasons to drink them year round, and can list a number of my favorite food and wine pairings involving white wines. Many people however feel that white wines are best consumed in warm weather taking advantage of their cool, refreshing qualities.

There are definitely white wines that I would consider quintessential for summer: Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, and Albariño for example. However, there are plenty of other varieties—and styles!—to get you through the colder months as well.

Vino Paradiso, a wine bar and restaurant located NW 10th Avenue in Portland's Pearl District, is currently offering a flight of white wines that are all blends using the grapes marsanne and roussanne. The three wines included are all from south-eastern France (two from the Rhône and one from the Languedoc) and each offers a diverse set of characteristics while remaining true to the grape varieties. Continue reading on my Portland Wine Examiner page: Vino Paradiso: Excellent winter white wines in the Pearl
